Puppy Class Puppy class is a course for dogs that are between 12 weeks of age and 6 months of age. This course is designed to teach basic life skills such as sit, stay, down and come. We will also address common puppy problems like biting, chewing and house training. This is a great course to take to get a head start in beginner obedience class. TDI Class is 4 sessions beginning on November 12th,2008 Testing will be on December 17th There will be no class on Thanksgiving week. Ring 1 Beginner Obedience 4:30-5:15 Rally Advanced 5:15-6:00 Puppy Class 6:00-6:30 Beginner Obedience 6:30-7:15 Tricks and Manners 7:15-8:00 Ring 2 Open Mat Time 4:30-5:15 Advanced Obedience 5:15-5:45 Rally Novice 6:00-6:45 Attention and Heeling 6:45-7:15 Agility Head Start 7:15-7:45 Ring 1 and 2 Agility Introduction To Obstacles 8:00-8:45 Agility Advanced Handling 8:45-9:30 Registration is scheduled the first night. Owners and their dogs begin class on November 12th, with the last class on December 10th. We are proud to say that we are the oldest dog training club in the area! Beginner Obedience For dogs who have either completed Puppy Class or know the basic commands or are 6 months. This class will teach the handler how to train your dog to sit, down, stay, come and walk in heel position using positive reinforcement techniques. Behavior problems such as biting, chewing, jumping and housebreaking are also addressed. Teacher: Cathy Kishel |
Tricks and Manners Prereq: Beginner Obedience. This class will help handlers and dogs advance their obedience skills and learn how to apply obedience in the home environment. Behavioral issues will be covered in this class and behavior topics will change session to session depending on what questions arise. This class is also designed to prepare a dog and handler team for the Canine Good Citizen test. At the end of the 8 week session, the team will have the opportunity to test. Also covered in this class will be tricks and game the handlers can do with their dogs. This class is designed for the handler that just wants a well-behaved pet and needs to expand on/practice already learned skills. This class is designed to be taken more than once, if desired, as the class content will change from session to session. The class will be consistent in that all of the exercises for the Canine Good Citizen test will be taught and practiced each session. Teacher: Nicole Wiebusch & Sandy Smith |
Attention and Heeling –Prereq: Beginner Obedience. Anyone interested in competitive obedience needs a solid attention foundation in order to continue to advance their skills. This class will go through an attention program and teach the basics for the heel. Teacher: Nicole Weibusch |
Rally Novice Prereq: Beginner Obedience. The dog and handler work as a team through a course of designated stations each of which has a sign providing instructions for the skill to be performed. Conformation Class (This class is not being Held this session) This is a class offered for people who are looking to show their dog in the breed ring. AKC American Kennel Club, UKC United Kennel Club , and CKC Canadian Kennel Club or breed specific club,all breed training for the ring. Learn the art of stacking, and gaiting your dog presenting your dog for the judges review. |

| Agility Head Start Prereq: Beginner Obedience. This class is intended for people that want a good solid foundation in agility. The curriculum does NOT focus on obstacles, but rather focuses on games to teach the dog foundational skills such as crosses, get outs, go’s, 2on/2off contacts with a board, restrained recalls, crate games and impulse control, etc. This class is designed for people that are interested in agility competition and need a solid foundation to be success. Teacher: Jane Leithnen Introduction To Obstacles Prereq: Beginner Obedience. Introduction to Obstacles is designed to teach handlers and dogs the skills necessary to successfully perform all agility obstacles. This class is designed to either be a beginning class for those that just want to play with their dogs in agility, or to be the next step after Agility Head Start on the way to a competitive, successful agility career. Teacher: Jane Lethinen Agility Advanced Handling Prereq: Introduction to Obstacles. This class is designed for people who are interested in learning advanced handling skills, whether it is for competition or just advancing agility skills. Advanced Obedience –Prereq: Attention and Heeling. This class will prepare a handler and dog for the Novice class in competition obedience. Dogs successfully learning the skills in this class will have the skills to be able to earn their CD (Companion Dog) title. Class may also include: several types of recalls, retrieves, jumping, go-outs, scent articles and gloves. Order of specific classes not determined yet. This a 4 week class. Teacher: Nicole Weibusch |
| Procedures to register for a class: 1) Decide which class is right for you. 2) Complete a registration application form as thoroughly as possible. 3) Checks should be made payable to the IRDTC; cash is also acceptable. 4) Write the name of the class you are registering for on the memo line of your check 5) Write your check number on your registration application, or if paying in cash please note that on your application. 6) Write either your dog’s rabies tag number /or/ the serial number from the vaccine on the registration. (Puppies under 5 months are exempt from the proof of rabies immunizations. If you do not have your rabies proof with you tonight please furnish it at the next class) 7) Present your registration application, cash or check and proof of rabies immunization to a Registrar for that particular class. We appreciate your patience if there is a line! 8) Now you can find a seat and we will demonstrate some of the levels of obedience and agility for you from 6:00-7:00pm. Feel free to ask questions at any time---we want you to feel comfortable and know with a commitment on your part to practice with your pooch you can take pride in having a dog that is a well-behaved good citizen! Thanks so much for your cooperation! Classes start on September 10th. Please remember to bring a good 6 foot leather leash, a buckle collar, some soft chewy treats or string cheese, and a choke or pinch collar if you have one! Please bring an extra pair of shoes (shoes you do not wear into the Gym off the street and that are clean and have no sharp objects or cleats) to use on the mats. “Exercise” your dog before entering the building please! |
Class time is 6:00pm there is a second class it will be at 7:15pm THERAPY DOG INTERNATIONAL This class is intended to introduce people to the TDI test. To give people information on TDI visits. Also to help prepare dogs and handlers for the different environments and medical equipment as well as social situations. |
